WAVES IN JAPANESE PRINTS

If « The Great Wave off Kanagawa » by Hokusai is universally famous, Japan, with its position as a « ship in high seas », is truly a country of waves…Over the years, they were represented  in sceneries and stories of many woodblock prints.

In this post, we have tried to explore their variety of shapes, from absent (!) to supernatural, across Japan coastlines and seas.
