FOREIGNERS IN 1860’S YOKOHAMA CITY

At the end of the 19th century, the opening of Japan to the West paved the way to a whole new kind of Ukiyo-e prints associated to the life of foreigners in Yokohama, the yokohama-e. The fashion lasted only 10-15 years and it led to the production of approximately 1000 designs, both sociologically and artistically interesting.  Welcome to Yokohama!
